Some important season-related information for our registrants:

Little Kickers:   Open to players entering pre-school or kindergarden in the Fall of 2010 (must be at least 4 before October 1st, 2010).   Due to the success of the program and for the safety of our players and their family, Saturday games will be broken down into two sessions:  9:30am-10:30am session and 11-12PM session (teams randomly assigned). Each one-hour session includes 25 minutes training, 5 minutes cool down, and 30 minutes scrimmage. One parent/guardian must be in attendance at all matches. MTL will provide a team jersey, shorts, socks, shin guards, and a trophy at the end of the year.  Soccer cleats are recommended but not mandatory.  Each player should take a #3 soccer to the games. Coaches, no weekday practices required for this age group.

Older Divisions: Open to players entering grades 1-9 in the Fall of 2010.  Games are played between 1-5 PM (one game/weekend, in one hour time slots) at one of these West Orange fields.  MTL provides the following: team jersey, shorts, and socks. Shin guards are provided for grades 1 & 2 only. All players must wear shin guards and soccer cleats to all matches and practices. Coaches will determine time/place for weekday practices.

The following soccer ball sizes are required by each player:  grades 1 and 2: #3 soccer ball, grades 3 and 4: #4 soccer ball, and grades 5-9: #5 soccer ball.  Players are encouraged to attend practices with a soccer ball along with cleats and shinguards.  Practices are generally 1-1.5 hours long based on the discretion of the Coach as well as the age group.

Coaches:  It is a soccer tradition to have your players take turns bringing snacks/water to the games.  Please be sure to put a list together for your team.  Snack ideas:  peeled oranges or apples, cantaloupe etc.

Except for siblings, teams are made up randomly and special requests are not honored - Coaches can choose one Assistant (and child) for their team. Sorry, no exceptions!

We are still looking for commissioners, especially for Sunday. Those positions are mostly administration and communication with the coaches and the league, with some field supervision required. This can be worked around your children games. It is a great way to get involved if you are not confident about coaching. Current (experienced) commissioners and trustees are on hand to help you through the transition. since we have taken care of the roster and coaches up to now, the transition will be easy. Please email me directly if interested.

COACHING CLINIC

Thanks to the generosity of Lou Mignone, the head coach of the girls varsity soccer team at the high school, we will be able to offer one more coaches clinic.

Saturday Sept 11 at 5:30 at Lower Stagg Field.   Coach Lou will run through about 50 minutes of drills that you can run with your players of any age group.  We will then have some time to handle any administrative questions you still have by then.

Also, an excellent coaches manual is available for purchase to MTL coaches for a very nominal fee ($6) from challneger sports, the group that ran our summer program.  you can go to www.thechallengerway.com  and use promo code DWB2009.  Its well worth the investment.

Thanks again for your patience and support as we work to get the season underway.  We still have teams that need coaches so if you have any friends interested, please let us know.
