Summer Travel Softball

Summer travel allows players interested in a more focused and increased competitive experience within softball. Following tryouts, players are placed on teams based on skill. Depending on total number of players and skill, two teams per age division will be created to ensure a healthier and more competitive experience. Summer is designed to further develop players’ skills, provide a competitive experience, and allow for competition among teams from other towns, as well as tournaments throughout the NJ, NY, Delaware and Pennsylvania area. Summer teams are based on birthdates that are put forth by the American Softball Association (ASA) and the United States of America (USA) Softball rules committee. Register for the age that your player is on 12/31/19. For example if your child is or was 8 on 12/31/19 register for 8u, If your child is 9 on 12/31/19 register for 10u, and so on. 7 year-olds are encouraged to sign up for 8u.

Age Requirements:

8u – 1/1/2010 or younger – Coach Pitch

10u – 1/1/2008 or younger – Player Pitch 35’ modified

12u – 1/1/2006 or younger – Player Pitch 40’ (regular softball)

14u – 1/1/2004 or younger – High School rules

16u – 1/1/2002 or younger – High School rules

 

What’s included:

10 – 12 league games (half home games & half away)

USSSA Insurance Fees

Umpire Fees

Minimum one league playoff game

One travel tournament

 

Additional needs:

New for this summer is the purchase of uniforms separately. This process allows for better fitting uniforms, as well as ability to utilize same uniform as player progresses through their growth and development. Uniform numbers will thereby be used throughout player’s experience. The uniform includes two short-sleeved practice (game) jerseys (navy blue and grey), vest game jersey (blue), grey pants with blue piping, navy socks and visor (if desired). Their name will also be added to the back of the jersey. Once teams are established players will go to the MTL building for sizing of the pants and jerseys. A separate payment will be required at that time.

All players that participate in summer travel will receive a gear backpack bag from MTL Softball with their name and number stitched. That way they can reuse the bag as they grow throughout the program.

Facemasks and a helmet are also required for each player. Arrangements are being made with Dick Sporting Good and Rip It helmets for group purchase separately from the uniform. The color of the helmet needs to be navy blue and white. More details to follow.

 

Optional items:

Various merchandise will be made available for players, parents and siblings including sweatshirts, t-shirts, gym shorts, and other identifiable pieces of clothing. All of these items will include WO Softball logo and identifiable information
