Mountaintop League Third Annual Charity Fundraiser A Success!
WEST ORANGE, NJ – The West Orange Fire Department and Mountaintop League came together on Sept. 21 for their Third Annual Charity Fundraiser, geared to raise funds to support the MTL Hockey Program and a whole lot more. The West Orange community came together to net over $4,000 for MTL Youth Hockey, the successful feeder program begun to develop ice hockey in town. “West Orange MTL Youth Hockey has made great strides since we started three years ago,” said parent and former township councilman Sal Anderton.
“Our squirt team (U10) won the division in the Union Sports Arena Spring league earlier this year, defeating towns with long hockey traditions like Cranford and Scotch Plains,” he continued.
“Hockey is an expensive sport so the fundraising enables us to keep the costs affordable for West Orange families while still providing a quality program,” he noted.
Mountaintop parents and members of the West Orange Fire Department faced off in a friendly battle to support the popular kids’ program. WOFD ultimately beat out MTL 6-4, but everyone came out a winner.
A sock drive for the Holy Trinity-West Orange Food Pantry capped off a very charitable and fun-filled evening, garnering a large bin of socks for needy clients.
Anderton took a moment to thank those who helped make the evening successful. “I would like to give a huge thanks to the WOFD for their great partnership with MTL,” Anderton commented, and to “Assemblyman Jonn McKeon and Council President Victor Cirilo for being our play-by-play announcers and scorekeepers, Mayor Parisi, Councilman Guarino and Councilwoman Casalino for their support and sponsorship, Hockey trustees Damien Locricchio, Alex DeRonde, Warren Tranquada, Brad Palent and all our MTL Youth Hockey families.”
